Excursions from Varallo
Rima San Giuseppe: the Pietro della Vedovo museum of art and history
is a plaster-cast gallery. where you can see a wonderful collection
of chalk moulds from the works of the sculptor Pietro della Vedova.
Carcoforo : it is situated in the middle of the pastoral valley and
it’s extensive larch woods. It is also knows as “The Ideal
Village of Italy”.
Civiasco: one of the most gracious and aristocratic Valsesian towns
and the only town in Valsesia which exhibits examples of perfectly
preserved Spanish-Morrish art. The emigrants who left in 1700 made
their fortunes in Spain and they brought back to their homeland this
architectural style inspired by the Arabs – namely palaces imitating
the buldings of Barcelona, Madrid and Saragossa. This impressive testament
of the Spanish adventures is housed in the town museum.
Riva Valdobbia: the only town in the valley from which you can enjoy
an extensive panorama of the peak of Monte Rosa: a visit of the Parochial
Church of San Michele, a national monument dating from 1326 is recommended.
Alagna : an old “Walzer” settlement where the typically
wooden dwellings are preserved intact. We recommend a visit to the
Walzer Museum in the Pedemonte district, housed in a building dating
from 1600, where are exhibited costumes, furnishings, worling equipment
and other objects of everyday use which portrays the histoty and culture
of the “Walzer” people.
